About

Hey guys, I’m Jin. Thank you for stopping by.

I’m a Korean-born interior designer, aspiring illustrator and surface designer embracing life as a digital nomad. I thrive on the freedom of traversing different corners of the world, drawing inspiration from diverse cultures, food, language and nature.

Spicy Candied Life is where I share two things that I love the most; food and art. If you have been here before you’d know this site was originally created as a food blog with all the delicious things that I made and tried in the past few years. (You can find all my blog posts here). If this is your first time and you want to know more about me and Spicy Candied Life, please feel free to read on. And if you want to learn more about my art please check out my Shop.

I’m a designer, an enthusiastic traveler, and a foodie. I obsessively think about, read about, cook and – most importantly – eat all things tasty from all over the world. I was born and raised in Korea but have lived in a few different parts of the world for almost 20 years. Now I’m living a life of a digital nomad with the most perfect dining companion, who loves and appreciates food the same way I do.

There were times that I couldn’t even use a rice-cooker and almost set my mom’s kitchen in fire trying to fry Tonkatsu (she still doesn’t know about it). But living abroad on my own got me to start cooking and it also made me realize that, having grown up with my late grandmother’s food, my taste buds wouldn’t settle for anything boring or tasteless. I have always cooked like my grandmother who spoiled me with her hearty home cooked meals for 18 years. Like most grandmothers in Korea she never had or followed any written recipes.

As I started having so many ideas I wanted to try with my food this became a bit of problem. And cooking and plating everything in my tiny, humble city kitchen does get hectic sometimes. So one day I decided to become organized. I now have notes, pictures and sketches whether they are in my phone, laptop, sketchbook or anywhere else. I am truly surrounded by deliciousness and I could not be happier.

I believe with a little more effort every page of this blog could also be filled with delicious things. And if I’m lucky enough I will be able to share it with people who are just like me.
